Carotid Intima-Media Thickness (CIMT) Test & 2D Echocardiogram

Many suffering the early and intermediate stages of Coronary Vascular Disease show no outward signs or symptoms of the disease. Early detection is crucial for proper treatment for sustained recovery. Measuring the thickness of the intima and media layers of the carotid artery wall is one way to assess your arteries for signs of atherosclerosis, or blocked arteries, by either the accumulation of plaque or thickening of the blood vessel wall.

The 2 Dimensional Echocardiogram is a test in which ultrasound is used to examine the heart. It shows the size, structure, and movement of the different parts of your heart, pumping capacity and the location and extent of any tissue damage. It also gives other estimates of your heart function such as a calculation of the cardiac output, ejection fraction and diastolic function.

Who should have Carotid Intima-Media Thickness (CIMT) Test & 2D Echocardiogram?

  • Family history of heart attack and/or stroke
  • Abnormal Cholesterol Level
  • High Blood Pressure (hypertension)
  • Smoking (former or current)

  • Overweight or Physically Inactive or Unhealthy Lifestyle
  • Sleep Apnea
  • Chronic Inflammatory Disease or Disorder
  • Prior abnormal CIMT test to help follow the effectiveness of risk-factor modification

This non-invasive procedure. It is safe, painless and takes about twenty minutes.
